FALL RIVER, Mass. (
MyFoxBoston.com) -- Phase two of jury selection in the Aaron Hernandez murder trial continues on Friday, as defense attorneys for the former Patriots tight end demand to know whether or not Hernandez' fiancee Shayana Jenkins has made a plea deal with the prosecution.
The defense asked a judge to order the prosecution to turn over any information about a possible agreement with Jenkins, who has been charged with perjury but could agree to testify during the Odin Lloyd murder trial if those charges are dropped.
Prosecutors have said that Jenkins lied dozens of times, including when she said she couldn't remember where she disposed of a box from the basement of their home that Hernandez allegedly told her to get rid of. Jenkins had an immunity hearing last week, but no deal has been announced.
On Friday, 60 potential jurors are due to appear in court for direct questioning as the judge overseeing the case works to whittle down the pool of more than 1,000 potential jurors to just 18. Hundreds of potential jurors were dismissed on Thursday, as both sides raised objections to answers provided on individual juror questionnaires.
Hernandez is charged with first degree murder in the death of Odin Lloyd.
On Thursday, Governor Charlie Baker officially appointed a new District Attorney to oversee the office prosecuting the Hernandez case. Thomas Quinn was named acting Bristol County DA by former Governor Deval Patrick. Governor Baker says Quinn will serve until a new election in 2016.
