Charlie Baker goes 1-on-1 with FOX 25's Sharman Sacchetti

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- In a wide ranging one-on-one interview with FOX 25, Governor-elect Charlie Baker told us how he'd tackle a big problem in current state government: management failures.

"Well, it's a big government, OK?  I think the biggest thing to do is hire great people," Baker said, when asked what his administration would do to ensure failures do not happen. Governor-elect Baker has said his administration would be bipartisan, but wouldn't talk about any appointments just yet.

"More to tell as we move forward."

When asked if he thought he needed to "clean house," Baker responded, "We are definitely going to bring in a lot of new people."

Throughout the campaign, Baker has often used the term "weed whacker."  He said the first thing he'd look to "whack" are "regulations."

Is there anything Baker believes he could learn from Governor Patrick?  We asked and he said he has learned a lot running and campaigning against the Governor.  Baker did say Patrick has a "zen-like" quality to him which he says is important for a public figure when dealing with issues. Baker also said he thought Patrick was "always terrific" in speaking with the press and public in "matters of crisis."

Unlike other Governors before him, Governor elect Baker says this is the only job he wants.  When asked if he'd rule out any run for higher office, he responded, "Yeah...I am."

Baker tells us he expects appointments to take shape anywhere from around Thanksgiving to mid-December.  His birthday is on Thursday and he says he just wants to take his wife out to dinner.
