BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A judge denied a motion to dismiss the perjury charge against Shayanna Jenkins, fiancee of former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez, Friday.
Jenkins was charged with one count of perjury in connection with the murder investigation Hernandez is involved in. According to the indictment, in August 2013, Jenkins did "willfully swear or affirm falsely in a matter or relative to which such oath or affirmation was required."
Jenkins' attorney accused Bristol County prosecutors of breaking the law by indicting Jenkins for perjury without saying how she allegedly lied to a grand jury in the case. According to court documents, her attorney asked the judge to throw the indictment out, saying that the district attorney acted with "excessive prosecutorial zeal."
The Commonwealth denied the dismissal, stating that the prosecution has evidence "with respect to fourteen of the allegedly perjurious statements."
Jenkins is connected to Hernandez in many ways, including being the mother of his child and the sister of his alleged murder victim's boyfriend.
Hernandez is charged with the murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd as well as a 2012 double murder in Boston.
