BOSTON (
MyFoxBoston.com) -- Senator Elizabeth Warren pointed to massive budget cuts in medical research as a potential driving factor in the spread of Ebola Thursday. She also said that the disease is "not new" and pushed for long term investments in medical research to "avoid this kind of problem."
After a breakfast at the New England Council at the Seaport, Warren told reporters, "I want to remind everyone Ebola is not new. We knew about this many years ago and had started funding research on it, and then with all the funding cutbacks, with all the pressure, on the national institute of health, much of that research has been shelved." warren added "now we're out spending millions, billions of dollars, in emergency response, people have lost their lives, we're all very worried, instead of spending the money in advance to do more of the research to avoid this kind of problem."
