BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Thirteen years after 9/11, a day that changed the way Americans viewed security, the country is again reminded of the threat of terrorism as concerns rise over Isis.
At 9/11 ceremonies in Boston, Mayor Marty Walsh said that Boston police are prepared, especially after the marathon, but he still wants better communication with the federal government.
"With Isis certainly we are on higher alert in the city of Boston, and there has to be a lot better coordination between the city of Boston and the federal government making sure that we're addressing any potential threat to the city.
Attorney General Martha Coakley, the Democrat running for governor, tells us it's a governor's first priority to work with federal, state and local police to respond to anything that does happen.
"Certainly today is a good day to remember that we are and can be threatened on our own shores, we in Boston learned that very well from what happened at the marathon. I think it's incredibly important that at the state level I'll make it a priority to ensure that our first responders here have the training they need in the event of another incident," Coakley said.
Charlie Baker, the Republican running for governor, noted that 9/11 means a lot to people here in the Commonwealth, for the loved ones who were lost and also because Boston was a destination where the planes left from.
"Just think for the foreseeable future we are always going to have to be on alert," Baker said.
Baker told FOX 25's Political Reporter Sharman Sacchetti that local aid has consistently been cut by hundreds of millions, while state spending has gone up by several billion dollars.
He says it's time to create a partnership with the cities and towns moving forward to support local police and public safety operations.
When asked how she would try to ensure that something like that doesn't happen in Massachusetts, Coakley noted her background in law enforcement and impressed upon the need for state, federal and local police to coordinate.
