LAWRENCE (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A robber who went on a spree in Lawrence is now behind bars and police have a 70-year-old retired nurse to thank. She stood toe-to-toe with the suspect, who was standing in her home, all while her 96-year-old mother was in the next room.
For Sheila Nyhan, it was poise over panic when she saw an intruder standing in her home. It was a surprise that came around midnight Tuesday. Nyhan said she was getting ready for bed when she entered a spare room and saw a man standing there.
“I said, ‘What are you doing here?’ He said, I think I’m lost,” Nyhan explained
That's when she showed her unwanted guest the door, and he calmly obliged.
After he was kindly escorted out of the Nyhan's home, police say he hit two more houses but his alleged spree came to an end when an alert neighbor on Durso Ave. saw him trying to break into another home.
It didn't take long for police to catch up to Richard Kasperowitz, Jr. He was arrested minutes after a 911 call, but apparently the 42-year-old wasn't as mild mannered with police.
Police say Kasperowitz may have burglarized eight homes in two hours.
Nyhan said her late father's watch was stolen.
