(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - The trial of a local mom accused of withholding her son's cancer medication began with some strong words from prosecutors.

They say Kristen Labrie's actions were like pushing the young boy in front of a car.

Labrie allegedly did not fill chemotherapy prescriptions for her son, Jeremy, who was diagnosed with a treatable form of cancer in 2006. He died in 2009 at the age of 9.

Labrie's attorney claims she became exhausted and upset because the medication's side effects made Jeremy sick.

Labrie is charged with attempted murder and child endangerment.

Testimony will continue today. Watch our Let it Rip for more on this story.
