SALEM, N.H. (FOX 25 / myfoxboston.com) - Police are searching for a man who attacked his own mother and fled before police arrived.

Alan Dewhirst Jr., 24, also has ten outstanding arrest warrants in Massachusetts including Possession of a Drug, Resisting Arrest, Shoplifting and Forgery.

Dewhirst allegedly visited his mother to get money from her. When she wouldn’t let him in her house, he forced his way in. He then grabbed her pocketbook and that’s when police say a struggle ensued.

Before fleeing the residence, Dewhirst threw the purse into the bathroom, the contents scattered all over the house. He didn’t get away with any money.

The 47-year-old victim, who’s name is being withheld, was possibly treated for a broken finger but was otherwise unharmed.

If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of Dewhirst, who is believed to be staying in the Atkinson, N.H. area, please call Salem Police at (603) 893-1911 or the Southern N.H. Crimeline at (603) 893-6600.
