MIDDLEBORO (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A Middleboro man was arrested Monday on child rape charges.

Thomas A. McNamara, 59, was charged with indecent assault and battery on a child, rape of a child with force, distributing obscene material and indecent exposure. McNamara is accused of sexually abusing three children repeatedly over a nine-year period.

McNamara was arraigned yesterday in Wareham District Court and held on $100,000 bail.

Middleboro police say the state Department of Children and Families impeded an investigation that led to McNamara's arrest.

In a report on file at Wareham District Court, Middleboro police Detective Simmone M. Ryder says the state agency would not provide her with a 2005 report in which one of the victims told an investigator she was abused by McNamara. Ryder said she asked for the report on Feb. 8, and two weeks later, the agency responded and directed her to request the information through the district attorney’s office.

Ryder was able to review the records by March 3 through copies on file at the district attorney’s office.
