MANSFIELD - A lawyer for a Mansfield man accused of killing his 6-year-old daughter says he plans to use an insanity defense.
The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro reports that a lawyer for 36-year-old Kristopher Griffin has told prosecutors he will use the insanity defense, although he has not yet filed a formal motion.
Griffin is accused of slashing his daughter Kaitlynn's throat with a filet knife in her home in July 2009. Griffin was estranged from the girl's mother and did not live in the home.
Officers found the suspect nearby covered in blood and barefoot. He is being held without bail after pleading not guilty to charges of murder and home invasion.
Griffin, who has a history of mental health issues, has been found competent to stand trial, scheduled for March 16.
