Vestas Power Systems (VPS)

Our Hudson, Massachusetts facility leads the design and development of electric power generators for wind turbines. We have an immediate opening for an Electromagnetic Machine Design Engineer in our generator product development team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to join a fast-paced group of experts driving the next generation of renewable energy.

Reporting Relationship:

The position will report to the Chief Specialist in Electromagnetics at Vestas Technology R&D; Americas in Hudson.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

This is an electromagnetic design engineering position for large electric generators. In this role you will:

• Create, analyze, develop and test electrical design concepts for large electric generators;
• Perform electric machine design trades, optimization, detailed performance analysis and documentation;
• Lead the optimization of cost, efficiency, weight and output among competing design parameters;
• Develop validation test plans to demonstrate generator performance and explore design limits;
• Support electric machine testing and test result analysis
• Develop and enhance modeling and analysis tools to increase fidelity, enhance prediction confidence and reduce design cycle.

Education & Experience:

• Minimum of MSEE/MSME with focus in electromagnetic design of electrical machinery
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience, including minimum of 2 years experience with rotating electrical machinery
• Knowledge of electromagnetic, generalized electrical machine theory and power converters and its interaction with electrical machines and power systems are required.

Minimum Requirements:

• Proven ability to work effectively as part of a fast-paced product development team;
• Demonstrated leadership and project management skills;
• Proven skills in modeling and simulation with 2D/3D FEM, Matlab & Simulink software and prototype fabrication, testing and validation of analytical models
Additional Requirements:
• A minimum of 10% domestic and international travel is expected
• Candidate must be open to relocating to New England within 4 weeks of offer being extended.

Work Location:

The primary work location for this position is Hudson, MA U.S.A.
