(FOX25, myfoxboston) - We'd like to take a moment to wish George Washington a Happy birthday. The father of our country is one of the many great Presidents we turn to for guidance and inspiration.

If you really delve into history you can find some quotations from some of our founding fathers and former presidents which also double as great career advice.

Joining us in the job shop this morning with more about how we can follow their advice is Martha R. A. Fields.

Martha is President, CEO and founder of Fields Associates, Inc, which is located in Harvard Square and established in 1994. She has served as a consultant and expert on management, diversity and globalization for Harvard Business School.

Martha R. A. Fields can tell us who said what and how we can apply this advice to our career success.

1) "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt?"

- Abraham Lincoln

2) "I cannot tell a lie."

- George Washington

3) "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
- John F. Kennedy

4) "I'm a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it."
- Thomas Jefferson

5) "Speak softly and carry a big stick."
- Theodore Roosevelt

6) "Trust, then verify."
- Ronald Reagan
