Troquet by Deborah K. at InsiderPages
A great place to go with friends. The paired wine and food is a great way to try a number of different wines at all different prices. They have some vintage wines downstairs which are also available. The food is good, as well, making it a very pleasant place to spend an evening.

Great food and wine selection, service pretentious, price high
Caesar salad was delicious, as was the Duo of Foie Gras (served two ways, with pear), would not suggest the Roasted Organic Chicken (way dry), nor the Suckling Pig (too salty). Go somewhere else for Rib Steak. Excellent wine selection. Wait staff was self congratulatory and tried to be more than they are. Prices were high- expect to pay at least $60 per person for three courses and wine.

Excellent food paired with excellent wine
Troquet has the most interesting wine list in Boston. It has something for everyone--some outstanding and expensive wines, but not as expensive as elsewhere. Also, some medium priced wines that are very good. Chris, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and always has interesting recomendaions. Or you can choose the wine pairing with the food for a good combination. The food is also excellent and has improved recently. I had an excellent frisee salad and outstanding halibut for a great dinner experience.

Be prepared for some sticker shock...
Troquet is a great dining experience. Wonderful food, a mellow, cozy atmosphere and a great wait staff. What is particularly nice is not only do they have a good selection of wines available by the glass, they list them with the appetizers/entrees that best suit them, so theres less guesswork pairing food and wine. They also have a great bartender who mixes up some terrific cocktails (try the caipirinha).

The only downside is that the wine list is amazingly expensive, with the majority of bottles at $99+, kind of disappointing for a place that bills itself as a wine bar. On the other hand, you do get a phenomenal selection of wines to choose from.

Wonderful experience
I was able to treat my girlfriend to a wonderful evening at Troquet last weekend. The ambiance was dark and romantic, the service impeccable. We got the 6-course chef tasting menu, and at least in our short lives neither of us has had a better meal. Her favorite-the short ribs, mine the roast duck. (got to try both). Also, the chef chose goat cheesecake and the signature cake. Both were terrific selections and highly recommended. Although the meal is pricy, the wine selection, impeccable service, and quality in both appearance and taste of the food all make it well worth it. Highly recommended.
