BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police are investigating an apparent homicide in Bridgewater where a body was found badly burned near railroad tracks.

According to the District Attorney's office, the body was found just before midnight about 100-feet from train tracks at Oak Street and Crapo Street. Officials say the call came in after someone saw a suspicious vehicle in the area.

The victim is believed to be a female and her hands were bound behind her back and to her feet. Officials believe the body was burned at the scene. They could not confirm whether the victim was alive at the time.

A family lives right next to the commuter rail tracks and say they saw a dark colored vehicle do a u-turn on their street and then back up to the tracks Tuesday night. They called police and when the first officers arrived, police say a body was on fire.

"We don't have any evidence that the crime happened there other than the burning definitely happened there," the district attorney said.

Law enforcement sources told FOX25 that the woman's body may have had a tattoo so investigators were checking nearby tattoo parlors for leads and asking local businesses for surveillance footage and any information that could be helpful in this case.

Investigators had to work around commuter trains coming through. They collected evidence all morning and into the evening.

One neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said, "It's unsettling. It's surprising for this neighborhood."

Police are asking anyone in the area who may surveillance footage or any information to contact them. The DA's office believes the person killed was specifically targeted somewhere else.

Investigators are still working on an approximate age. Bridgewater University is only a mile or away from the crime scene. Police there telling us this case has no known connection to any of the students.

The investigation remains ongoing.
