Chelsea Police officer accused of assaulting man, filing false report

Posted: Updated:

CHELSEA, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - A Chelsea police officer is on unpaid leave after allegedly beating a local man and writing up a false report about it.

Police were called to a Chelsea home last September and the supervising officer asked other officers to place a drunk man in protective custody.

Officer Rivera allegedly punched the man in the face four times while he was handcuffed, knocking him to the ground.

Rivera filed a report about the incident saying the victim assaulted him, but prosecutors say they interviewed several police officers who were there who said that report was false and that Rivera’s use of force was not needed.
