BOSTON (AP) - Author Dennis Lehane has stepped down from the Boston Public Library's Board of Trustees, but it has nothing to do with the recent disappearance of two valuable pieces of art.
The Boston native and author of novels including "Mystic River" and "Gone Baby Gone," says in a letter to fellow trustees it's because he now lives in California.
Lehane says he is stepping down with "great regret and a heavy heart."
He says the library sparked his writing career because "it showed me a world beyond my own, a world of ideas and experiences that unfurled like an infinite ribbon."
A 1634 Rembrandt etching and 1504 Durer engraving that were feared stolen were found this month and had just been misplaced.
Lehane did not mention the missing art in his letter.
