The shooting happened on Bowdoin Street near Quincy Street late Sunday afternoon. Divan Silva, 7, was riding his bicycle when he was shot, according to Boston Police Superintendent in Chief William Gross. Silva was on his bike outside a barbershop, near his grandmother's house, and police believe the shooter may have intended to shoot someone standing in the doorway.
He was rushed to Boston Children's Hospital and was in the intensive care unit Sunday night after being shot in the buttocks. He was finally released Wednesday and is expected to make a full recovery.
Commissioner William Evans said, "I hope anyone with information that could help this investigation feels an obligation to come forward. The 7 year-old boy injured in this incident deserves as much. He didn't do anything wrong. He was simply riding his bike to the store when the suspect in this case fired a round that could've killed him. Our detectives are working around the clock to identify the individual responsible but we need the community's help. If you have information, please come forward. Holding onto it only helps the suspect. And those responsible need to be held accountable."
Anyone with information is asked to call District C-11 detectives at (617) 343-4335.
