Super Bowl champions to be honored by president

Posted: Updated:
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - The New England Patriots are headed to the White House to meet President Obama.

Obama will honor the Super Bowl champions at a reception on the South Lawn on Thursday.

The Patriots won their fourth Super Bowl championship in Arizona on Feb. 1 with a 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks that wasn't settled until Malcolm Butler's interception in the final minute.

Patriots special teams star Matthew Slater said earlier this week that the entire team was excited about the opportunity to meet the president and planned to enjoy it.

Some players are already putting the championship in the past, as offseason workouts began this week with an eye on next season.

This visit continues the presidential tradition of the president honoring sports teams for giving back to their communities.
