ATLANTA (
WSBTV.com/MyFoxBoston.com) — A family who lost their dog following a rollover car accident has been reunited with their 1-year-old German shepherd, Georgia.
Karen Love and her husband Dan were bringing Georgia home to Atlanta when they were involved in a serious crash.
"All of a sudden Dan just said, 'He is going to hit us,'” Karen said.
The Loves' SUV rolled over, and over and over.
"I know it happened, but it happened so fast the next thing I knew I was upside down,” Karen said.
A group of good Samaritans pulled the couple out of the truck, both unhurt. They also held the driver of the offending vehicle until highway patrol troopers arrived. The driver was later charged with driving under the influence.
After they took in what was happening, the Loves say their son Eric's dog, Georgia, was nowhere to be found.
Then Saturday, they made the announcement on the
Facebook page "Help find Georgia," which was established after the crash.
"Words cannot express the joy I have at this moment. My deepest appreciation goes out to everyone who has thought about us, prayed for us, looked with us, and now celebrates with us!"
Eric's roommate told Channel 2 Action News that the group found Georgia about a mile from the crash site at around 1 p.m. Saturday.
"Someone spotted her and called my roommate, her owner, Eric, so we drove out and walked around and she popped up in the woods," they said.
They said they are thankful to everyone who helped them look for Georgia. They said there were about six cars of "amazingly nice friends and strangers" driving around and keeping an eye out for the dog.
"She is happy and healthy and back home safe," the owner's roommate said.
