MyFoxBoston.com) -- A U.S. National Guard soldier and his cousin have been accused of conspiring to support terrorism.
Army National Guard Specialist Hasan Edmonds, 22, was arrested at Chicago Midway International Airport, where officials say he had booked a flight from Chicago to Cairo in order to join ISIS. Edmonds' cousin, 29-year-old Jonas Edmonds and an alleged conspirator, was arrested inside in Aurora home.
Officials say that both of the suspects, who were arrested on Wednesday, are U.S. citizens from Aurora, Illinois.
Hasan Edmonds allegedly planned to use his military training in the Illinois Army National Guard to fight on behalf of ISIS.
After Hasan Edmonds left Chicago, Jonas Edmonds was allegedly planning to carry out an act of terrorism in the U.S.
Officials say that both suspects met with an undercover FBI agent, who they allegedly asked to assist in the attack. The suspects allegedly planned to use Hasan Edmonds' uniforms and National Guard information to attack officers.
Both suspects were scheduled for initial court appearances on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Conspiring to provide material to support a foreign terrorist organization is punishable by up to 15 years in prison and carries a $250,000 fine.
