LAWRENCE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The girlfriend of former Lawrence Mayor William Lantigua is suing the city for wrongful termination.

In the federal lawsuit, Lorenza Ortega claims she was fired from her job as a secretary because of her "political support and personal relationship" with Lantigua. Ortega was fired as soon as Mayor Daniel Rivera took office in January.

During last year's mayoral race, Ortega was accused of violating state ethics laws by serving as Lantigua's campaign treasurer.

No comment from Mayor Rivera on the suit.
