BOSTON (
MyFoxBoston.com) -- Voters may get a chance to expand the state's bottle deposit law.
According to the
Boston Globe, people may be able to decide if the anti-litter law should include bottled water and sports drinks.
Right now, the 5-cent deposit only applies to soda, beer, and malt beverages. Advocates say expanding the law will help the environment.
Opponents claim it is an outdated way to fight pollution.
Supporters have already collected more than 90,000 signatures in favor of expanding the law. They have until July 2 to collect another 12,000. If the signatures are confirmed, the issue will be on the ballot in November.
