West Roxbury, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Firefighters who spent the morning honoring Lt. Ed Walsh then paid their respects to the family of FF Mike Kennedy at his wake Wednesday in West Roxbury.
The 33-year old was one of the first to run into that burning brownstone on Beacon Street last week. He served in the marines, was a "big brother" and an active CrossFit trainer.
Several thousand firefighters attended the wake along with Kennedy's friends, family and even people without a connection to the fallen hero.
"Born and raised in West Roxbury. And I just thought it would be a nice thing to show my respects and to teach my son that sometimes, even if you don't know a person you still come out and show them that you care. And he loves fireman, so why not come out and see a bunch of men walk by and say goodbye to their brother," a West Roxbury resident said.
