The Patriots have agreed to a deal with veteran running back Donald Brown, according to FoxSports.com's Peter Schrager.

Brown, who turns 29 next month, was a first round draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2009, but has failed to live up to the expectations that come with being such a high draft pick. In seven seasons with the Colts (2009-2013) and San Diego Chargers (2014-2015) he has rushed for 2,829 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Brown joins a running back core that includes Dion Lewis, James White, and Brandon Bolden.

While many Patriots fans hoped the team would sign a big name running back like Matt Forte or Arian Foster, for now it appears the Pats are going with a cheaper alternative.
