Eriksson will play as trade deadline approaches

Loui Eriksson will play tonight for the Bruins, despite the fact he could be traded tomorrow before the NHL's trade deadline approaches.
Meanwhile, the Bruins remain in discussions with Eriksson about extending his contract, with TSN's Darren Dreger reporting the sides are far apart in terms.
"We've made offers to Loui and haven't been able to find a deal at this point in time," said general manager Don Sweeney, less than 90 minutes before the Bruins prepared to host Tampa Bay at TD Garden. "It's sort of status quo on that front."
Eriksson is nearing the end of his contract and is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the 2016 season, making him on of Boston's most likely trade options as the deadline approaches Monday afternoon.
"There's been ongoing discussions," said Sweeney. "They have their position and we have ours and I'd like to find a deal, but it hasn't happened to this point."
Eriksson has 23 goals and 25 assists this year for the Bruins.
"Loui's a good player," said Sweeney. "He's having a great season. He's very important for our success up to date and we treat it as such. If another team, and I've had several discussions with teams, felt that was equal on that side of it and the deal was the right fit, then that's something we'd explore, but my preference all along has been to try and sign him and go from there."
