WORCESTER, Mass. —

Police in Worcester are searching for the person who opened for at a housing complex on Easter and hit one team.

Police say the teen was not seriously hurt, but they still want to get to the bottom of this.

This shooting happened in broad daylight just after 3:30 p.m. on Easter Sunday.

Residents tell FOX25 they are concerned that this level of violence so close to home, could mean a bigger problem.

“Every couple of days, you hear gunshots further down, which I don't like. They say it's safe here, it's not safe,” Carmen Rivera.

Rivera moved to this housing complex on Tacoma Street just a few months ago with her kids.

She says that she was nervous about the area before this most recent shooting.

“My daughter goes to school with kids in the neighborhood, and she goes, ‘mom, can I got  to my friends’ house?’ ‘No, no, just cause, I don't know,’” she said.

The Easter shooting was just one building away from where Rivera lives.

The 17-year-old victim and a friend were walking in the area when shots were fired from the woods.

Police searched the area but didn’t find anything.

“We live in a place where if somebody's hurt, nobody saw or heard anything, and nobody wants to speak up,” Rivera said.

Justin Nugent said things are better than they were, but he's keeping his eyes open.

“When I was younger, there was a lot of fires going on around here. A lot of drug dealers. I'd be afraid to walk in and get shot,” he said. “I’ve got three little kids. So I hope the bad days aren't coming back, or I'll be gone.”

Police say the victim was hospitalized with a non-life threatening injury and is expected to be OK.
