Rescued pig cooks up controversy in New Hampshire

STRATHAM, N.H. —

Whoever thought that the story of a pot-bellied pig’s search for a home could cause controversy?

Certainly no one at the New Hampshire SPCA.

When someone surrendered the pig – saying a butcher had saved the 3-year-old pot-bellied pig - SPCA workers went to work caring for the pig and looking for a home.

But as NH1 reports, they had no idea there would be such a public outcry -- especially because it turned out to be a huge misunderstanding.

Missy needs a forever home. On Wednesday, she was featured on Facebook - as “Pet of the Week.” The post explains Missy’s owners no longer wanted her so they took her to a butcher.

That sparked outrage on NH1 News's Facebook post, as hundreds of people questioned how any pet owner could butcher their pot-bellied pig.

Upset at the public’s outcry, the pig’s former owner Eric Scott Tucker took to Facebook and wrote of he and his ex-girlfriend that "No way would we have given her to a butcher to be killed. We are not bad people."

After a breakup, he explained that he and his girlfriend Ryleigh Rafuese gave the pig to a butcher, James Akerman who dealt with a lot of farms and wanted to find her a good home.

They just want to find a home for Missy.

She’s leash and litter-trained and loves to be outdoors.
