Woman killed after house fire in Natick
by: Erica Ricci Updated:
A Natick woman was killed Saturday after a fire in her home on East Central Street.
The fire was discovered around 8 a.m. by an off-duty firefighter on his way to work. Lt. Eric Williamson had no gear with him, but he knew time was of the essence, so he busted in the front door.
"I tried to make it to the second floor and I got about halfway up, and the smoke was just banking down - I couldn't really breathe," he said.
Moments later, emergency responders arrived, they were able to rescue the 73-year-old woman from a second story window. She was alive but unconscious.
At the hospital, she was later pronounced dead. Fire officials said they believe the woman lived in the home alone and did not have functioning smoke alarms.
