Boston Police remind residents about parade traffic closures

The St. Patrick's Day Parade is almost here and it's causing several street closures and traffic detours. 

The city asks that those attending the parade to not drive their personal vehicles to South Boston, and instead take a bike or the MBTA. More information on renting bikes in the city-wide system be found on Hubway's website. 

The parade begins at 1 p.m. Sunday on West Broadway at Dorchester Avenue.  All streets along the following parade route will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.

The road race will begin at 11 a.m. on West Sixth Street and will end at noon. 

"Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Sunday” temporary parking restrictions will be in effect as follows:

•E Street at West Broadway on the West Third Street side

•L Street at East Broadway on the East Third Street side

•Old Colony Avenue at Dorchester Street on the inbound side

•Thomas Park, South Boston High School side, from G Street to opposite #1 Thomas Park

•Dorchester Avenue, both sides, from Gillette Park to Old Colony Avenue, and, both sides, from Andrew Square to Von Hillern Street

•Old Colony Avenue, both sides, from Dorchester Avenue to C Street

•West Broadway, both sides, from Dorchester Avenue to Dorchester Street

•D Street, both sides, from West Broadway to Cypher Street

•Athens Street, both sides, for 30 feet from the intersection of D Street

•West Third, both sides, for 30 feet from the intersection of D Street

•Bolton Street, both sides, for 30 feet from the intersection of D Street

•West Second Street, both sides, for 30 feet from the intersection of D Street

•West First Street, both sides, for 30 feet from the intersection of D Street

•Cypher Street, both sides, for 30 feet from the intersection of D Street

•East Broadway, both sides, from Dorchester Street to P Street

•P Street, both sides, from East Broadway to East Fourth Street

•East Fourth Street, both sides, from P Street to K Street
