DEVENS, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - Hundreds of cyclists took to the roads around Devens Saturday to raise money for the fight against Alzheimer’s.

The disease affects millions of Americans, and this ride was about preserving the memory of loved ones, and preventing more from suffering.

This was the 19th annual Ride to End Alzheimer’s and 90 percent of the proceeds make it back to doctors working on a cure.

“This is what I can do; I can help them fund the research. Alzheimer’s needs much, much more money and this is what I feel I can do for her,” one rider said,

More than 400 riders took to the course, all of them saying they have help along the way.

Despite the grueling ride, for some it's not about pushing through pain.

“Climbing on a hill on a bike is way easier than what all of them went through,” one rider said. “when i see what my mom does every day, this is much easier than what she goes through.”

The ride raised more than $400,000 for Alzheimer’s research.

The Alzheimer’s Association says that unless a cure is found, more than 16 million Americans will have the disease by the year 2050.
