NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford woman has been sentenced to up to eight years in prison for setting another woman on fire.
Bonnie Germano was also sentenced this week to 10 years of probation for her role in the December 2007 attack that left Donna Chasse with third-degree burns.
Two men allegedly involved in the attack are awaiting trial.
Prosecutors say Germano and the men doused Chasse with rubbing alcohol and tossed a lit book of matches at her in a dispute over drugs.
The 54-year-old Chasse, who was hospitalized for three months after the attack, still bears the scars and says she suffers pain.
Prosecutors asked for a 15- to 20-year sentence, but Germano's defense lawyer called the shorter sentence "fair." Germano was convicted of assault and battery in March.
