FALL RIVER (AP) - A Swansea man has been sentenced to two years in jail after pleading guilty to vehicular homicide for a crash that killed his friend.
Justin Nunes was also sentenced Thursday to seven years of probation in Fall River Superior Court and ordered to undergo random testing all seven years to ensure he is refraining from drugs and alcohol.
Authorities say the 24-year-old Nunes was behind the wheel in the early morning hours of Sept. 18, 2009 after a night of drinking when he crashed into two telephone poles.
His passenger, 21-year-old Joslyn Moynagh, died at the hospital.
Nunes' lawyer says his client has accepted responsibility.
The Herald News reports that Nunes must also volunteer at facility that provides care to people recovering from traumatic injury.
