BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Police are looking for a man identified on surveillance video robbing a church in downtown Boston on Monday.
Police responded to St. Leonard’s Church at 14 North Bennet St. at about 4:30 p.m. where church personnel said the church had been broken into the night before.
Several donation boxes had been broken into and an undisclosed amount of money taken. Since the break in, the church now empties all donation boxes at the end of the day.
After reviewing video surveillance and chasing down several leads, detectives were able to identify the suspect responsible for the break in. Detectives are looking for Richard Shiner, 44, of Boston in connection with the above robbery.
An arrest warrant has been issued in his name. Shiner is to be charged with burglary and larceny from a building.
Anyone with information relative to the suspect’s whereabouts is encouraged to call Area A-1 detectives at (617) 343-4248. A reward up to $1,000 is being offered for information that results in an arrest and indictment.
Boston police plan to visit area churches following a spate of recent break-ins.
The Mission Church, where the funeral for Sen. Edward Kennedy was held last year, has been hit at least three times in the past month, with the most recent break-in occurring early Monday.
