WORCESTER (AP) - A Worcester man has been acquitted of stealing $100,000 from Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton where he managed the pro shop.

Fifty-year-old Kenneth Powers was found not guilty Friday of one count of larceny over $250 after a three-day trial.

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports Powers denied the accusations and his lawyer argued in court that many people had access to the pro shop's receipts. He was fired in 2010 after cash discrepancies were discovered.

Powers said he was thrilled by the verdict, and thanked the jury for "looking at everything in this case and taking everything in account."

Power is a former sports reporter for the Telegram & Gazette. He was fired in 2005 over plagiarism allegations.
