WORCESTER (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Worcester police continue to investigate the death of a man found shot in the head in a city park.
Police say 21-year-old Kevin Shavies was found in Crompton Park by someone out for a walk at about 9 a.m. on Sunday. It appeared he died from a single gunshot wound to the head. Police think he was shot sometime after 2 a.m. Sunday.
Authorities did not immediately release a possible motive and did not immediately make any arrests but did not believe it was a random act.
Chief Gary Gemme told The Telegram & Gazette that budget cuts are making it hard for his department to maintain programs aimed at keeping young men out of trouble. He says a recent spike of violence in the city "raises concerns."
