HYANNIS (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A Hyannis man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly attacking and holding his ex-girlfriend captive inside his home.

Barnstable Police tell FOX 25 a 20-year-old Sandwich woman got out of her car on the way into a friend’s home on Old Mill Road in Marstons Mills when a man identified as Keith Newell allegedly grabbed her and forced her back into her car. The woman says she had ended her relationship with Newell earlier that day.

The woman tells police that Newell got into the car after forcing her back into it and drove away. During the ride, Newell allegedly pulled out a gun and threatened to kill the woman.

Police allege that Newell then drove the victim to his residence in Hyannis. Once in the home, Newell allegedly said, “If I can’t have you nobody will,” before taking her cell phone and car keys. The victim tells police he threatened to kill her if she left the bedroom.

The woman claims that Newell took a drug while they were in the bedroom and eventually passed out. She was able to escape at that time and notify Sandwich Police who in-turn contacted Barnstable Police.

Newell was later found on West Main Street and arrested on two outstanding warrants unrelated to the investigation. After police interviewed the victim, Newell was charged with kidnapping, assault by dangerous weapon, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, A&B; domestic violence, and threat to commit domestic violence/murder.

Police were also able to obtain a search warrant for his home. During their search, police say they found the handgun Newell allegedly used during the kidnapping. He is a convicted felon and does not have a license to carry firearms.
