MATTAPAN (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A burglary suspect got stuck between the freezer and floor boards at a Mattapan restaurant during a break-in, according to Boston police.
A female cook found the unidentified suspect at around 7 a.m. when she reported to work at La Belle Capoise, said Emmanuel Beliard, whose mother owns the Haitian restaurant and who was alerted by the cook to the break-in, the Boston Herald reported.
Beliard said the man apparently broke into the Morton Street restaurant through a basement window and then went up a circular set of wooden stairs leading to the first floor.
A bulkhead between the stairs and the first floor is covered by a freezer and the burglar pushed that door open and got stuck between the first floor and basement stairs when the freezer fell back.
Beliard said he asked the man what he was doing, but the would-be crook only begged and cried for help.
Boston police, fire and emergency medical personnel provided the man with medical attention, lifted the freezer and pulled him to safety, according to Bellard. It is not known whether he will face criminal charges.
