(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - More than 217 million Americans have cell phones and most can't imagine life without them. Between texting, Facebook-ing and calling, cell phones have become something most of us simply can't put down.

But what if your phone were actually bad for your health? There have been numerous studies attempting to link cell phone usage to brain tumors but many have conflicting results. In fact most have not shown an increase in tumors or cancers.

But another confusing study has emerged. It shows people who held a cell phone to their heads for 50 continuous minutes had a noticeable increase in brain activity. So, is that a good or a bad thing?

"The bottom line is that we really don't know what this means,” said Dr. William Curry, a neurologist at Mass. General Hospital on the Fox 25 Morning News today. “In fact, it could be a good thing. There are many real life clinical situations where we intentionally induce brain activity as therapy for instance, or for depressions for instance. It doesn't necessarily mean this is good or bad. We really have no idea at this point."
