Police search for
suspect in MA slaying

HAVERHILL - Haverhill police are searching for a Florida man they believe fatally shot a city man in his apartment over the weekend.

Jose Fuentes was found in a basement apartment at 16 Union St. early Saturday morning lying on a bed with multiple gunshot wounds.

The 27-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are looking for 21-year-old Jose Collazo, of Tampa, Fla.

The Essex district attorney's office says he is a Hispanic male, with black hair and brown eyes, 5-foot-5, and weighing 137 pounds.

Authorities say Collazo has teardrop tattoos under his left eye.

Police did not reveal a motive for the slaying, but said it was not a random act.

It was the city's first homicide of the year.
