(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - The troubles in Japan have reached all the way to Massachusetts. Radiation from a nuclear power plant in the island nation has shown up in our rainwater, but health officials are urging the public not to panic.
Officials say radio iodine, or I-131, was discovered in rainwater here in the Bay State. State and federal officials found a very low level of the substance in a single sample last week, then tested 12 other water sources as a precaution yesterday.
The Department of Public Health says it is confident the public is not at risk.
Test results are due back within a few days. Officials say the public will be notified if there are any significant changes.
