(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for shooting two family dogs and leaving their bodies in a New Bedford industrial park has grown to $6,000.
The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says "an outpouring of community and donor support" sparked by media coverage helped the reward grow from $1,000 to $6,000.
The dogs, a golden retriever and a Chihuahua, were found by a pedestrian Feb. 13. They had been reported missing weeks earlier.
A veterinarian said it appears that both dogs were "executed" by being shot in the back of the head.
An MSPCA official says the publicity has led to several tips.
