(Fox 25/MyFoxBoston.com) - Feel like you need to drop a few pounds? Some experts say eating more blueberries could help.

Researchers at the Texas Women's University gave mice a dose of polyphenols extracted from blueberries.

Researchers say the highest dose of the anti-oxidant cut the number of fat cells by 73% while the smallest dose cut fat cells by 27%.

Polyphenols are found in lots of fruits, vegetables and even chocolate.

Researchers say the results are preliminary.

Blueberries are not the only food loaded with health benefits. Loading up on those vegetables also appear to be helpful when it comes to lowering your risk of cataracts.

British researchers interviewed more than 27,000 people in the early 90's about their diets.

Follow-ups 15 years later found that those who were vegetarians or vegans were 40% less likely to develop cataracts compared to meat eaters.

Researchers stress that eating meat does not promote cataracts and say eating certain vegetables might protect against the risk of the disease.
