The Head and the Heart rock Boston

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - In the midst of The Head and the Heart’s opening songs I leaned to my girlfriend and said, “This band is going to be very popular very soon.”

“I know,” she replied.

The Head and the Heart did the near-impossible on Saturday night at The Paradise. They managed to transfix a crowd rabid with anticipation for the headliner, Dr. Dog.

Coming out on stage shortly after 9 pm, The Head and the Heart got the sold-out crowd dancing and clapping with their opening few songs. “Cats and Dogs”, “Coeur D'Alene” and “Ghosts” all showcased the band’s folk-pop stylings infused with jangly piano riffs.

Josiah Johnson and Jon Russell traded magnificent vocals throughout the night, reminiscent of their fellow SubPop-ers, Fleet Foxes and Blitzen Trapper. The band really excels when it’s clear as to how much fun they’re having on stage, fueling the audience as they did on Saturday.

The Head and the Heart finished as strongly as they started. “Lost in My Mind” and “Down in the Valley”, two beautifully textured songs, set the audience up for an excellent finale. The entire band romped and stomped through “Rivers and Roads”, while Charity Thielen’s solo ushered in the biggest cheers of the night.

The Head and the Heart are a band to watch and certainly one on the rise.

Learn more about them here and check out their performance of “Down in the Valley” from Saturday night’s show at The Paradise.
