(MYFOX NATIONAL) - This year's American Idol runner-up may be the front man for one of rock's legendary acts. Rumors about the team-up began swirling after glam rocker Adam Lambert and rock group Queen performed together on the season finale last week.
Rolling Stone reports that Queen guitarist Brian May, though, does not want to assume that it's a done deal. "Amongst all that furor, there wasn’t really a quiet moment to talk," May told the magazine. "But [drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point. It’s not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn’t that easy. But I’d certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there."
Lambert also performed with rock band Kiss during the show finale, and bassist Gene Simmons was not as ready to crown Lambert a rock singer. Rolling Stone reports that Simmons posted on his web site: "Respectfully, I don’t think Adam is a rock singer," Simmons writes. "He sounds much more convincing singing ballads and Broadway shows. His voice doesn’t seem to have a 'rock quality.' But, I’m sure he’s going to do just fine."
Lambert auditioned for Idol with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and was quickly seen as a top performer, though judge Simon Cowell remarked that he was "theatrical." Next up for the singer is a 50-city tour with the other Top 10 Idol singers this summer.
Queen recently ended a four-year relationship with singer Paul Rodgers.
