MYFOXNY.COM - The story of a New Jersey family's struggle to find a cure for two of their children's life-threatening disease is the basis of the new film, 'Extraordinary Measures,' starring Brendan Fraser, Harrison Ford and Keri Russell. '
The role of Princeton resident John Crowley is played by Fraser. Good Day NY spoke with Crowley.
In 1998, Crowley and his wife learned their two kids had a rare, genetic disease that breaks down glycogen which is stored in the form of sugar in muscle cells. When glycogen builds, it causes tremendous swelling of the heart and other organs.
"It rips you apart. They went from being regular looking kids. Megan, by age 2, was on a ventilator and in a wheelchair... Patrick even sooner than that... by about a year and a half.," said Crowley.
The father quit his corporate job to start a bio-tech company dedicated to finding a medication. His children got their first dose in 2003.
