(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Legendary rockers Def Leppard are making a comeback, first with a new album and now a national tour with two other bands. And the guys are tipping their hats to veterans along the way.
Def Leppard have kept the adrenaline rushing for three decades. This summer the band is bringing their crunching jams on a 40-city US tour with fellow rockers Poison and Cheap Trick.
"It flatters you, I think, that after 30 years of doing it, people actually still want to come and hear music that they've grown up on," said lead singer Joe Elliott.
The gigs don't get old said Elliott. "I think you basically revert back to the 12-year-old boy inside you when the lights go down and the crowd starts cheering."
With more than 65 million albums sold, the band has been digging into the vault for fans.
"It's like your life rewinding all the way back to the day and the second which one of us walked into a room and said 'I've got this great idea for a song,'" explained Elliot about going through the bands catalog.
Though you don't need to scream "Pour Some Sugar On Me" every time you see Elliott.
"It's horrible when somebody says why don't you join in and sing along with your own record in a bar. It's like 'Hmmm. No please.' ... Somebody puts the jukebox on 'cause they see you in the corner, [but] sometimes it's just by coincidence," said Elliott. "When it's coincidence and nobody recognizes you, then it's okay."
On all their US tour stops, the band is giving free tickets to wounded veterans.
"Drummer Rick Allen is heavily involved in the Wounded Warrior Project and we are working like beavers to try to work something in to help some of the folks out that are either struggling for money in this recession or they're injured or wounded and don't think they're going to get opportunities to come to shows," said Elliott.
And next up may be new Def Leppard material. "We may dig the 'Sparkle Lounge' out and get into writing some bits while we're on this tour and preparing ourselves for future releases."
