- A set of photos accompanying an upcoming Details cover story on Alex Rodriguez has some people wondering what the Yankee was thinking when he posed for them, The New York Times reports .

The interview and photo shoot took place on the day Rodriguez learned that "Sports Illustrated" would report that he tested positive for steroids in 2003.

The photos include shots of Rodriguez kissing his reflection in a mirror and exercising in a bare room with a concrete floor. The mirror-kissing photo was mocked on the front page of the NY Post .

“You look at the pictures and you have to wonder what he is thinking,” Details editor Alex Bhattacharji told the New York Times. “He was totally at ease. It led us to believe he was either relieved [the news of his 2003 steroid test results] was coming out or he didn’t realize it would come out so soon. We either lucked into or fell into the time period that adds a head-scratching element to the whole question of who Alex is.”

According to the New York Times piece, whatever Rodriguez was thinking, he was drinking. Details writer Jason Gay said Rodriguez was taking shots of Patron tequila during the photo shoot.
