BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Local musicians who like the intimate feel of Daddy's Junky's Music will now have to go elsewhere for their music needs. The New Hampshire-based store, which sold new and used musical equipment, closed their doors for good at 8 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Daddy's opened its first store in New Hampshire in 1972 and the chain quickly spread to other New England states including Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut. The chain even spread to New York. Daddy's was in business for 39 years and many of those years were successful. It was even named "National Retailer of the Year" in the 80s.

Outside Daddy's Junky Music in Dedham Thursday, moving trucks prepared to load up, where inside workers took down equipment and packed up inventory.

But it's more than the 60 plus displaced employees singing the blues. Customer Tim Cohen put down $120 for an amp and has a few other items on hold. He, along with many more, have the same question.

At Daddy's Junky Music downtown, the store was a fixture for students at Berklee College of Music. But some are confused at offers they received just Wednesday from a store that closed Thursday.

The company's Facebook page was flooded Thursday with customers posting notes and messages, while others asked about unused gift cards or purchases on layaway.

"If you paid by credit card what you need to do is call your credit card company right away," said Barbara Anthony from the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation. "I can't emphasize how important speed is in a case like this."

"You should also contact the Attorney General's office and file a complaint there," said Anthony. "If they find there's any wrong doing involved in this abrupt closure there could be some legal action that could benefit you."

The abrupt closure resulted in 12 stores officially shutdown. For a business founded in the Granite State that thrived on the New Hampshire advantage, but growing sales on competing tax-free Internet sites cut into market share. As yet another New England based company fell victim to the recession.
